Prospective Students

Dear Interested Students –
In order to get admitted to our Bioengineering Program, you will have to go through the regular admissions process for George Mason and the Volgenau School of Engineering. For more information on applying please visit http://admissions.gmu.edu/freshmen/FreshmenAdmissionRequirements.asp

To find out more about ongoing orientations, check out our campus and sign up for open houses please visit http://admissions.gmu.edu/common/visitMason.asp. You can meet us in person at every open house event and have your questions directly answered by one or several of our faculty. The following paragraphs will lay out the details of our Bioengineering program and will help you in your decision process.
Hope to see you here soon!

The Bioengineering Undergraduate Program
This multidisciplinary training program enables graduates to become competitive for an entry-level position in the biomedical industry or to continue their education in graduate school or medical school.
There are currently three Bioengineering concentrations:

  • Biomedical Signals and Systems – The BMSS concentration emphasizes the systems and methods for acquisition and integration of biomedical signals.
  • Bioengineering Health Care Informatics – The BHI concentration focuses on the management, analysis and visualization of data related to biomedical and healthcare applications.
  • Prehealth – The Prehealth concentration is for Bioengineering students who are seriously considering a career path as a health care professional in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, etc.

Honors College
For students who are or seek to be part of the Honors College while pursuing a degree in Bioengineering can find general information here or check out the Bioengineering HONORS Advising sheets for the following concentrations:

  • HONORS Biomedical Signals and Systems – The BMSS concentration emphasizes the systems and methods for acquisition and integration of biomedical signals.
  • HONORS Bioengineering Health Care Informatics – The BHI concentration focuses on the management, analysis and visualization of data related to biomedical and healthcare applications.
  • HONORS Prehealth – The BMPH concentration is for Bioengineering students who are seriously considering a career path as a health care professional in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, etc.
