University Programs
OCSAR-Funded Opportunities
You can turn your ideas into action with internships, fellowships, and programs through the Office of Student Creative Activities and Research (OSCAR). OSCAR empowers undergraduates to pursue meaningful research, scholarship, and creative projects by connecting them with funding, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities including:
- Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (URSP) – conduct research, creative, or scholarly experience under the guidance of a mentor.
- Summer Team Impact Projects (STIP) – work on a faculty-presented question throughout the summer to create a solution and present findings, action plan, or prototype.
- Undergraduate Student Travel Fund (USTF) – support for presenting your research or scholarly projects at conferences, workshops, panels, and other professional events.
Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP)
The ASSIP is an eight-week internship that provides high school and undergraduate students with immersive research experiences alongside faculty mentors across a wide range of STEM disciplines. Participants use advanced technologies, develop scientific communication skills, explore STEM career pathways, and contribute to meaningful research projects while earning college credit.
Degree Program Research
Undergraduate
Our undergraduate program culminates in a senior design project. Our senior design course is now being further enriched thanks to a funded NIH grant that permits our students to spend six weeks in clinical immersion in a local hospital prior to entering their senior year. Their projects will respond to a clinical challenge and be guided by a team of advisors including a clinical mentor, an industry advisor, and our bioengineering faculty.
Graduate
Our PhD students work side-by-side with top bioengineering researchers to:
- Develop novel approach to predict aneurysm rupture based on computing blood flow patterns.
- Use latest ultrasound technology to improve prosthetics for arms, hands, and legs.
- Construct maps of neuron connections to understand brain function and neurological diseases.
- Build new biomaterials and nanostructures to regenerate tissues and modulate the immune responses.
